Discover how City Year is making a significant impact on under-resourced schools in Philadelphia and shaping the next generation of leaders. Key Highlights: About City Year Philadelphia: City Year is part of a national AmeriCorps program focused on educational equity. City Year Philadelphia deploys young adults, known as Student Success Coaches, to schools to provide academic tutoring, mentorship, and support to students in under-resourced communities.
How City Year Works: Teams of City Year members, aged 18 to 25, are placed in schools to work alongside teachers and staff, providing a range of support from one-on-one tutoring to school-wide activities like morning greetings and event planning. Their goal is to create a positive and supportive learning environment for all students.
Impact and Pathways: City Year members often choose to pursue careers in education after their service, helping to address teacher shortages and bring diversity to Philadelphia’s classrooms. Additionally, about 75% of members stay in Philadelphia after their service year, contributing to the community’s growth and development. Workforce Development: City Year also serves as a workforce development program, helping young adults build essential professional skills like teamwork, communication, and leadership, which are valuable for any career path.
